If there is one theme that pulsates in these early chapters it is that God reaches down into man's rebellion, arrogance and sin and finds the person whose heart is fully committed to him (see 2 Chronicles 16:9). We know that any faith and obedience we have is also a pure gift of grace from our Father!
This week we marvel at 2 things: God's Call and Rich Promises to Abraham & Abraham's faith and obedience as he journeys to and through the promised land of Canaan.
What we are going to see is Abraham travel from north to south through Canaan and symbolically take possession of the land. We are going to watch his walk of faith, out of dark, pagan Ur to the land that symbolizes the new earth, the eternal dwelling place of man with God.
The Abrahamic Covenant finds its final fulfillment in Jesus Christ our Lord, the Seed of Abraham. And we, the true believers, the true Church are the 'great nation' - the sons of Abraham, spoke of in Gal. 3:29. (Take time to meditate on the Scripture Reading passages listed below!)
